This was my first year visiting the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, and it was all that I imagined it would be. The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club chooses a location each year (usually a townhouse), and they select a group of decorators to design a different room in the house. It is wonderful, and all of the proceeds go to charity.
My favorite room was called “Madame’s Magical Menagerie” by designer Ken Fulk. The room is based around the fictional character of Madame F., the eccentric old woman who lives in the townhouse and throws over-the-top parties. She has a secret collection of zoo animals that wandered into her garden, which she kept as pets. Basically, she is who I want to be when I am 80 years old.
The room itself if wonderfully fearless, with deep jewel tones, huge floral arrangements, and a commissioned mural of flora and fauna.
Thanks for reading!
