Trunk Club Review No. 2 | January 2018

I have to admit that I’m a little bit disappointed with Trunk Club — I wasn’t even that excited when my box came this week because I knew I would only like one or two things inside. For this trunk, I asked my stylist for long sleeve fit and flare dresses for work, party dresses, flared skirts that fall above the knee, a low block heel, and a statement necklace. I also told my stylist that I am trying to phase out my college wardrobe in favor of professional and tailored clothing.

I think that everything she sent me is fun in and of itself, but most of it doesn’t work in the context of the rest of my wardrobe. I have been trying to describe my style to my stylist for so long, and I feel like I’ve failed. I also can’t stress enough to my stylist that I’m only 5’1″…a lot of the clothes in this trunk are too big in all the wrong places. Nothing in this trunk fit 100% properly…except for the black booties, of which I already own a pair!

What bothers me most about Trunk Club is that I feel like they don’t really care about what you want. It almost seems as if they are just pushing a bunch of extra Nordstrom inventory on you.

Trunk club is a personal styling service. You are matched with a personal stylist, who will send you a “trunk” when you request (or on a subscription basis). Currently, I am receiving trunks once a month. There is a styling fee of $25 per trunk, which is applied to any clothing purchases at checkout. It is free to return anything you don’t want or need, and you can schedule a pickup from your apartment or house. To sign up, you can visit their website here!

Bardot Rosie Ruffle Dress ($119) — RETURNED: This dress looks so gorgeous in the picture, but the fabric is unbelievably cheap! I would caution anyone against buying this dress. It feels like it would fall apart after one wear. And it just didn’t sit right on my body.

French Connection ‘Sundae’ Stretch Mini Dress ($148) — RETURNED: I’ve actually been eying this dress for a while on Nordstrom, so I’m glad my stylist ripped the bandaid off for me and sent it over. This dress is the ideal shape for my body type! However, this size was way too small on me. I would have considered just sizing up, but the zipper in the back bunches up around my waist because I’m so short.

“Where are my hands?”

Chelsea28 Bell Sleeve Fit and Flare Dress ($129) — RETURNED: It seems like this dress is no longer available on Nordstrom, but they have a similar cut in a floral pattern here. This dress was WAYYY too big on me. Which was disappointing, because if I were a dress I would probably look a bit like this one. And, although I am a fan of a subtle bell sleeve, the ones on this dress were massive and covered my hands when I put my arms down (#shortpeopleproblems).

Lush Metallic Tie Front Top ($49) — RETURNED: I think that this top is beautiful, and so much fun for parties! However, it was super low cut on me. You could see the bridge of my bra. It’s also quite sheer under bright lights. I considered styling it with a cami…but that kind of ruins the top for me….#SHORTPEOPLEPROBLEMS.

Devlin Brielle Ruffle Miniskirt ($89) — RETURNED:  This skirt is actually an honest to goodness MINISKIRT, which works for me and my stubby legs. However, where the two ruffles meet on the right side, they aren’t really connected so if the skirt flaps up you are in TROUBLE. Another thing I didn’t like was the stitching…it gives the skirt a much more casual feel.

Halogen Side Zip Neoprene Skirt ($69) — RETURNED: Two words: TOO. LONG.

Vince Camuto Ankia Suede Pump ($119.95) — BEGRUDGINGLY RETURNED: I was initially skeptical of these because I asked my stylist for a classic pump…and these aren’t  what I was imagining. But when I tried them on, I realized how beautiful they were! SUPER UNFORTUNATELY, they were too darned big! I’m so upset by this, because I’ve been looking for a pair of black pumps for the longest time. One day I will be united with them. I’m wearing these in the photo with the blue dress.

Vince Camuto Loranda Pointy Toe Bootie ($129.94) — RETURNED: These were so comfy and gorgeous, but I already have a pair of black booties. So I can’t really justify buying these at all. These are in the photo with the first dress.

Sam Edelman Sadee Angle Zip Bootie ($149.94) — RETURNED: …same for these black booties! These are in the photos with the skirts.

Baublebar Beaded Ball Statement Necklace ($38) — RETURNED: I sort of like the beaded ball jewelry trend, but I don’t know if I’m 100% on board. This necklace looks like gigantic pearls from far away, which gives it a sort of weird 50’s housewife/Flinstones vibe. My boyfriend thought they looked like marshmallows. Would’ve been cute for summer if it weren’t for that!
