I’m usually the last to hop on board for beauty trends, so I’ll preface this post by saying I am by no means a beauty blogger. So I’m not sure if this is totally true, but it seems like mascara primer might be a *new* beauty trend, and I might actually be an early adopter?! I can say with more certainty that highlighter is probably at the height of its trendiness.
Anyway, I decided to branch out of my regular beauty routine (which I’ve literally been doing for seven years) and decided to try some new-to-me beauty trends!
L’oreal Voluminous Mascara Primer
I saw my favorite blogger, Krista Robertson of Covering the Bases, doing a beauty video on Instagram, and she put WHITE mascara on. It turns out that it was primer, but I was so intrigued and had to try it. I think she was using Dior, but I didn’t want to splurge on something I was just trying out. So I did a quick search on Amazon, and L’Oreal had a perfectly affordable option. Now for the actual review: I LOVE THIS STUFF. The primer is indeed white, and you swoop it on as you would with regular mascara. It’s important to not get any clumps in your lashes, but the primer is smooth and the wand is good quality so it’s not difficult to do it right. You let it dry for a quick minute, and then apply the black L’Oreal mascara that comes with the primer. Used together, they create visibly longer and fuller lashes. I naturally have very thick and long eyelashes, so I actually have to go easy on the product — or else it will look like I’m wearing falsies. Bonus: even though it’s waterproof, it’s not hard to remove at all with a good makeup remover, or even coconut oil. I’m very impressed with this product and would highly recommend it! I love when stuff works.
L’oreal True Match Lumi Highlighter
I actually already own a very subtle highlighter by Bare Minerals called Natural Glow, and it’s wonderful and I love it. But it’s SO subtle that it’s more like a bronzer that exactly matches my skin tone. I wanted something a little bit more shiny, so I decided to go with this! I’m honestly not a huge fan. It goes on smooth enough, but it creates a sort of ruddy look on my skin. I might just have to accept the fact that matte always looks best on me, especially because I have very oily skin. I decided to give the highlighter a second shot mixed with my favorite liquid foundation. It created a very amazing glowing effect that I loved, but at the end of the day I took a closer look and saw that it had sunk into all of my wrinkles!!!!! NO BUENO!! I try to always avoid makeup that sinks into wrinkles. Maybe I’ll try this again with a powder foundation first, and see if that prevents sinking.
