Trunk Club Review | April 2019

Hello! I haven’t posted anything in a long time, and that is because I canceled my Stitch Fix subscription. In short, they just weren’t performing well enough to renew my Style Pass for the next year. However, I did decide that I need some help shopping for spring and summer clothing. I’ve mentioned this here before, but I have so much trouble shopping for warm weather clothing. I love dark colors, layers, and heavier items like boots and jackets, so when it’s time to get dressed and it’s 90 degrees, I usually have nothing to wear.

Instead of getting a box from Stitch Fix, I went with Trunk Club. I just think that TC has nicer staple items and I love that you get 10-15 items instead of five. I also trust my TC stylist, Fallyn, who really listens to me and reviews my Pinterest board before selecting my items. She sent me an amazing Trunk last summer where I kept six items that have since become go-to pieces in my wardrobe. So here’s what I got this time around!

Faithful The Brand Daphne Tie-Sleeve Minidress in Marguerite Floral Yellow  — RETURNED: Yellow is my favorite color! I really liked this dress but it was too big and the fabric was very light (not in a good way). I thought about sizing down, but they didn’t have any smaller sizes available. It looks like the dress is available at Shopbop, but I don’t know if I love it enough to splurge.

Eliza J Dot High/Low Fit and Flare Dress in Black/White — RETURNED: I was worried when I saw this that it would be too long on me. It wasn’t so bad, but I actually didn’t love the sleeves. I think they made my shoulders look broad. I also didn’t like the waistline. Again, I didn’t love it enough to splurge.

1901 Long Sleeve Shirt Dress in Navy Peacoat — RETURNED: I think this dress is an awkward length. Once I tried it on, it was just too big and bulky for me.

J. Crew Gingham High Neck Cotton Poplin Jumpsuit in Giant Gingham Sky Ivory — KEPT: Oh gosh. This is such a unicorn. When I saw the photo I was sort of like, “pfttt I’ll try it on and won’t like it.” But when I put it on, I loved it! My boyfriend is obsessed with it. I think I’ll have to get it tailored in the leg (as always, TOO LONG) but I love it so much, it’ll be worth it. I don’t often get things tailored, but I’m just obsessed with this jumpsuit. Also, it was on sale!

Halogen V-Neck Crepe Camisole in Black — KEPT: This is such a great staple. This top was sturdy and I can see myself wearing it all summer long. It can be dressed up or down. I can layer it during the other seasons. A keeper!

Something Navy Tiered Ruffle High/Low Miniskirt in Black — RETURNED: Has anyone else tried the new Something Navy brand? I used to follow her blog and am excited to see that she has this new partnership with Nordstrom, and I love the price range. I loved this skirt in the photo but not in person. The fabric was just so light and wrinkled, and I didn’t end up liking the ruffles. It was sort of an awkward length.

Something Navy Juliana Genuine Calf Hair Flat in Black White Leopard Print — RETURNED: The square toe on these intimidates me! These shoes are comfy, cute, and I love the leopard. I have a leopard pair of loafers that I wear all the time so I wouldn’t mind adding a more summery pair to my wardrobe. But, at the end of the day, I just can’t get past the square toe. It makes me cringe.

J. Crew Short Sleeve Button-Up Shirt in White — RETURNED: What a great staple. I like this a lot and can see myself throwing it on over jeans and loafers to run errands every single weekend. I like that it’s cotton and I like that it’s on sale. However, I didn’t end up keeping it because it was too sheer.

Topshop Dixie Textured Boucle Miniskirt in Pink Multi  — EXCHANGED: This skirt is right up my alley. I love the pattern, colors, and fit. Unfortunately, it was too small and short so I’m going to try to exchange it for one size up. Hopefully that will work, because I love this skirt! I can definitely see myself wearing it with a black turtleneck and tights in the winter, and a black camisole in the summer.

Madewell The Frances Mule in True Black — KEPT: Fallyn originally offered these to me in brown, but I decided to switch the color to black because I already have a pair of beige backless loafers from another Trunk. I knew I was getting these the second I saw them. I wear my beige loafers 3-4 times a week in the spring and summer, so I really want another pair. Backless loafers are so comfy…it’s like wearing slippers.

Topshop Lucky Faux Leather Biker Jacket in White — RETURNED: I have been thinking of buying a white leather jacket for a few months now, but I don’t want to splurge on real leather because I think white leather is a trend. This came in a size 6, which was much too big for me. I wanted to exchange it for a smaller size, but none were available. So sad!! I guess everyone else wants a white leather jacket too.

Madewell The Westport Tote in Burnished Caramel — KEPT: This is gorgeous. I worry that it doesn’t have a zipper to the main compartment, but it does have a larger zippered pouch inside where I can keep my wallet (gotta think about pickpocketers!). Such a gorgeous work bag, and I love the top handles.

Thanks so much for reading!
